Break out the white linens and strawberries and cream—it’s time for Breakfast at Wimbledon…er, make that The Reserve. No, you’re not across the pond. You’re by the most coveted body of water in Upstate SC, in an amenity-rich community that now includes—for the next two weeks—a Wimbledon-esque grass tennis court. On Monday, July 10, The Reserve at Lake Keowee officially announced the opening of the new grass court.
“We are thrilled to offer this as another fun amenity for our homeowners and guests,” says General Manager, David Fleming. “And to kick it off during the Wimbledon fortnight made it extra fun.” For two weeks the court will be open for complimentary clinics, a special exhibition, and a member doubles tournament. “So far the reaction to the new court has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Fleming. “Even our hard-core golfers are getting a kick out of it.”
The grass tennis court has been months in the making. The idea originated with Mike Lissner, Director of Tennis. “Originally I thought it would be a wonderful experience if we could convert the Croquet Lawn into a tennis court for the two weeks of Wimbledon this July,” says Lissner. “But after speaking with our Golf Course Superintendent, Chris Vincent, we decided to make an actual free-standing court on the Great Lawn. Obviously a lot of prep work and planning went into this by the Golf Maintenance Team. They’re the ones who actually pulled it off. Chris and his team did a great job.”
